Questions about Duolingo prep?
The Duolingo English Test (DET) is an innovative online assessment for students. It can be taken at home on a computer and it has an adaptive test format. It assesses students' skill in English, and can help them prepare for tests in other languages. The test takes one hour to complete, including the setup, scored assessment, and writing and speaking samples. Students can get certified results fast, so it's a great option if you are applying to colleges that accept the DET.
5 Minutes
Complete the setup and ID verification before beginning your test. Make sure your test environment meets the requirements to allow for a smooth administrative process for the certification test.
45 Minutes
The scored assessment for DET uses an adaptive test design, meaning that the difficulty of the questions can change depending on your responses. Your language proficiency will be assessed through a series of short tasks, as opposed to long-form traditional assessments.
10 Minutes
The DET has speaking and writing components where you will be able to fully demonstrate your communicative competence, including your skill in organizing information, using vocabulary, and applying grammar. The current English test also includes the Interactive Speaking, where there is a conversation with subsequent questions.
The Duolingo English Test is accepted by more than 6,500 institutions worldwide, but acceptance can vary by university, course and level of study. Students should always check the specific English-language requirement of their chosen institution before applying.
